Mickey Cohen was Benjamin Bugsy Siegel's shadow, a gambler, and a gangster. Whereas Siegel was tall, handsome, suave and welcome in the elite Hollywood circles, Cohen was brash, loud and boisterous, making no apologies for who and what he was, more inclined to pick the pockets and rob the safes of the very people Siegel mingled with. What they shared was a love of violence. After Bugsy was punished by his Syndicate partners (with 3 bullets in his head) for the failure of the Flamingo casino/hotel project, Mickey Cohen was left alone overseeing West Coast gambling assets as well as serving as a muscle for the mob, admirably filling Siegel's shoes. Mickey flourished in Los Angeles, loving the publicity and appearing to have more lives than a cat. Because he feuded with crime syndicate bosses over profits from his lucrative bookmaking business, he was shot, bombed, arrested, imprisoned, threatened, and like the street fighter he was, Mickey kept coming back for more. Even though he was convicted twice of income tax violations, serving a total of 14 years in prison, in the end Mickey outlasted most of his enemies. But like most of his colleagues, he died an ignominious death. This documentary provides an in-depth look at Mickey's life through rare film footage and interviews with his associates.
